A Maine family photo session
Some of my fondest memories -- those rare times of perfect contentedness, those moments you relive whenever you're instructed to go to your "happy place" -- have taken place on the remote shores of my family's camp. In the shadow of a double-peaked mountain, on the edge of a clear, crystal-green pond, my sister and I read countless books, ate hundreds of hot dogs, and played approximately one thousand rounds of Yahtzee and Scrabble. The peaceful times were interspersed with joyful, chaotic periods involving the entire extended family, cramming onto the tiny screened porch and the slanted wooden dock. As I grew older, welcomed into the folds of my husband's very large (and even more chaotic) family, I've been lucky enough to add several more of these magical spots to the list of places I return to again and again, seeking comfort, family and joy.
Making these memories, certainly, is the most important thing. But, as I look back on the memories of my happiest times confined largely to undeveloped disposable cameras and stolen daydreams in my cubicle at work....it becomes clear how important it is to preserve these moments.
Family. Generations. Cousins. Bonds. Laughter. Friends that last even longer than a lifetime, because your shared history extends back before you were born. Images like these will be treasured keepsakes, will spark late, wine-fueled nights of reminiscence…and your family deserves them.
