It’s been a long time since I’ve taken my camera anywhere with me just because.
Yesterday, on an afternoon of adventures with my Mom, I decided to bring it.
It used to be a no-doubt-about it move. I’d always have it with me. Take pictures of everything.
I can remember waking up in Oklahoma one morning and it just stopping. I became super driven by having to make it purposeful. My counterpart at the time hated it. Hated me doing it, hated me taking an extra minute leaving the house to pack it in my bag, said I wasn’t focusing on Thomas enough. I had in that moment stopped fighting for something that made me happy. Didn’t matter how many times I begged for support or understanding or at least not being scoffed at or criticized or made a nuisance-of because of it.
Yesterday I chose to see if it still made me just as happy.
Yesterday I stood in the middle of a greenhouse either inches away from water-splashed leaves and textured stems or in the middle of walkways just clicking away.
I didn’t hurt anyone. I didn’t bother anyone. I didn’t take away from anyone. Absolutely NO ONE gave any signs of negative feedback. Instead I was greeted with smiles and curiosity.
I wish I hadn’t given in. I wish I hadn’t believed the things being said to me years ago; that I would have ditched them.
Yesterday I did this with my camera, today maybe I’ll wear what I’d love to wear, and not worry about if my skin or my mom bod or my face or my figure is just not presentable “enough”.
Yesterday I was kind.
I was calm.
I was hyper productive.
I was helpful and encouraging.
Yesterday I made peoples’ lives easier, and I hugged sadness, and I expressed love and gratitude.
Today I’ll work for more of that.

My want to be a better person is laced in the hues and shadows and highlights.
Color, radically put, is the density of light. I don’t want to be stuck in shadows with nowhere to go. I want to be bright and full of energy and so full of warmth that I bounce everywhere and brighten what I’m able to reach.
