And in reality, marijuana is so much more to so many than just a way to relax or unwind. It has been scientifically proven over and over to assist in a wide variety of issues that affect so many. More and more people have found it to be such a supportive, “miracle” plant that is the perfect addition to a self care routine for anxiousness, stress, emotional disturbances, pain, and more. At B|A we are fully supportive of the medical marijuana movement, and when we had the opportunity to highlight this when it's also combined with a female focused, powerhouse babe running a business, it was a no brainer!! From the moment you step foot into Blazing Jane in Turner, ME you can feel the magnetic feminine pull of comfort and support. When you speak with Alyssa, the powerhouse behind the business, you can immediately tell where that energy comes from. Alyssa recognized the need in a male dominated industry for a female-focused medical marijuana shop and she built a wonderful answer to this need. “I created a warm welcoming space that is simple and straightforward. I love this industry so much.”

It's no secret that at this point there is no shortage of marijuana shops in most Maine cities and towns. This does not stop Alyssa from focusing on her dream and her patients. She believes the market will sort itself out and that it's actually important for people to have options of where they purchase their medication. We believe that anyone who spends time inside Blazing Jane will quickly become a loyal customer. There is just something different about the Blazing Jane experience, about Alyssa, and about the focus of her mission. 

“ I have a very small intimate shop. I believe in selling quality meds at an affordable price. All the flower I purchase has been tested by a third-party state licensed lab to verify the quality. I love exploring the options with brand new patients, and chatting with experienced patients! I slow things down and take my time to help the best I can. I sell books, and have events.”

There are so many misconceptions surrounding the medical marijuana industry. We are proud to know such a strong woman who is actively fighting against the stigma to better support and lift up her customers, and so many of the women who are seeking support. We asked Alyssa what she thinks the biggest misconception of marijuana is: “That people using cannabis lack motivation. So many of the products I carry won’t even make you feel “high”. I strive to make people feel better, lessen their anxiety, help with the seasonal depression and those achy bones, and more.”

Blazing Jane operates with the belief that medical marijuana can be beneficial for both physical and mental support. Alyssa loves to spend time talking with her customers, ensuring she is giving them individualized support and recommendations based on their experiences and her expertise. “Let’s be honest, when we feel better mentally, we feel better physically and vice versa. When I can help  that chronic pain with something that is consistent it changes your whole mindset! The times where anxiety can be crippling a small gummy, or tincture, or inhalation can relax the body so it feels better. Physical and Mental health go hand in hand!”

Like any industry there are hurdles to encounter beyond just the stigma and lack of understanding. In Maine, one unique and difficult setback can be banking, as there is only one credit union in the State of Maine that will work with a marijuana business. But none of this stops Alyssa, She plans to be here for as long as possible. She loves helping people and loves medical marijuana. She is so proud to run this female-focused badass shop. We are so lucky to have met her and happy to work with her as often as possible in the future. “My goal is to be here in 5, 10 and 15 years from now! Who doesn’t want to come to work with their dog!? I am very proud to have created this space and I am able to do what I love!”

There are constantly new creative products, supportive innovations, and helpful unique discoveries in the medical marijuana industry. There is room for more growth, more shops, more supportive caregivers and more knowledge. Blazing Jane encourages more women to enter the industry and has a little advice for those considering it. “Don’t worry about the noise. Focus on what you can bring to the industry. We all have a little niche. Stay consistent and compliant.”

Of course we couldn't leave the interview without asking Alyssa what her personal favorite medical marijuana product is: “I am a flower girl!
